Fidya for Fasting – Feed Someone in Need

Fidya for fasting is different from kaffarah and does not apply to everyone who misses a fast. Among the cases discussed in Islamic jurisprudence are people who are permanently unable to fast, such as the elderly or those with an illness from which recovery is not expected, depending on the ruling applicable to the individual case.

Where fidya is due, food is provided for a person in need for each applicable day.

Note: Scholars differ regarding the exact amount and method of providing the food. Asunya should therefore apply the amount and procedure approved by its qualified religious advisers.
