1000 km charity run for drinking water in Gaza

From Aachen to Skagen — a run to the northernmost point of Denmark, for water in Gaza

Water is life — in Gaza, it is becoming increasingly scarce

The water supply in Gaza has been severely affected by the ongoing destruction of infrastructure. According to UNICEF, around 90% of water and sanitation infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. According to OCHA, more than 70% of people in Gaza depend on water distributed by tanker trucks.

Seyid Can, a young student from Aachen, has made it his mission to raise awareness and take action by embarking on a 1,000 km charity run from Aachen to Skagen, the northernmost point of Denmark. For three weeks, he will run an ultramarathon every single day, starting on August 25, 2026.

His goal is to use the run to raise donations for Asunya’s drinking water project and, together with you, support a long-term solution to the water crisis.

For everyone who doesn't know me yet: My name is Seyid Can, I'm 20 years old, and I study psychology.

Two years ago, I already ran from Aachen to London. It was extremely challenging, but it showed me how much you can achieve when you truly commit yourself to a goal.

I have spent the past three months preparing for the run to Denmark. Most of the time, I went running two or three times a week alongside my studies and my job. So, I'm not an ultra-runner, and I don't do this professionally.

Whether I can actually complete an ultramarathon every day for three weeks is therefore just as exciting for me as it is for you.

And that's where you can create your own little fundraising challenge: Decide on an amount that you will donate for every kilometer I actually complete.

Everyone can contribute whatever is possible for them. In the end, many individual kilometers and many individual supporters can come together to make a significant donation towards drinking water supplies in Gaza.
